MASS INTENTIONS
_________________________________________________________ St. Martin’s Prayer for Peace is every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in church. Please come to pray for our country, for peace in the world and for the safety of our brave soldiers stationed around the world. All are welcome to join us. _________________________________________________________
Telephone Prayer Chain: Are you or someone you know in need of prayers? St. Martin’s Telephone Prayer Chain will take your request for prayers without a lot of questions and call it through to a team of devout people who will be praying for your request. Give us a call and put your needs in God’s hands. For prayer requests or to join the prayer group, call Bob or Mary at 662-0178 or call Peg at 922-7575. _________________________________________________________
2nd Sunday in Lent: Peter, James, and John go with Jesus to the top of a mountain where they see Him transformed into splendor and radiant glory. They see him talking with Moses and Elijah. They hear the voice in the cloud say, “This is my chosen Son; listen to Him.” The Transfiguration of the Lord gives us a glimpse into the glorious destiny that awaits the faithful followers of Christ. Lent is a good time for us to think about how clearly we listen to Jesus. The apostles were with Jesus, the Son of God, yet they dozed off. Do we doze off or do we remain alert with Jesus in our hearts all the time? Do we take the time to talk to Jesus in payer everyday and to listen for His message to us in our hearts?
Prayer Moment: God of Glory, quiet our hearts. Help us pay attention and stay awake, so that we never miss what your Son Jesus says to us.
A Vocation View: Are you listening to Jesus, the Chosen One? Be open to what he reveals to you. Let his message dwell in your heart. _________________________________________________________

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK OF OUR PARISH: Remember in your prayers those who are in nursing homes, sick at home, and all who have received prayer blankets.
In April 2003, new national hospital-patient privacy laws were enacted. Therefore, many hospitals will not notify St. Martin's of your admission. If you would like someone from St. Martin's to visit you in the hospital, please call the parish office to notify us.
If you know of anyone who can benefit from a PRAYER BLANKET from St. Martin’s, please call the parish office at 661-2000, to remind those who need it that the people of St. Martin’s are praying for their physical, mental and spiritual health. _________________________________________________________
The following parishioners have entered Eternal Life. Please remember them in your prayers: Alice Sturgill, beloved wife of the late John Sturgill. Robert Buchanan, beloved husband of Ann Buchanan, loving father of Robert, James, Michael Buchanan, Donna Clagett, Nancy Stenger and Katie Glasmeier. _________________________________________________________
Recent Baptisms: Dennis Patrick Brunner, son of Joseph and Jessica. _________________________________________________________

FROM THE PASTOR
Lenten Reflections: As we move into the Second Week of Lent, I hope the season is off to a good start for you. The penitential nature of Lent is an important part of these forty days, but it is also to be a time of growth and new life. I encourage you to do something during this season that will bring the life of God’s love to you and to others. Making time for quiet prayer or spiritual reading, or perhaps taking a quiet walk is not selfish. On the contrary, by rejuvenating ourselves in the Lord, we are then more inclined to reach out to others in charity and friendship. It was a real joy to celebrate the Rite of Sending Forth with our Catechumens and Candidates for Full Communion in the Church along with their sponsors last Saturday evening, and then to accompany them to the Cathedral for the Rite of Election. Please keep the Catechumens, now known as the “Elect” and the Candidates in your prayers as they prepare for the Easter Sacraments. Catholic Ministries Appeal: This weekend, we begin the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Your support makes possible a wide variety of ministries throughout the Archdiocese. Specifically, it is a major source of funding for the Retirement Fund for Diocesan Priests, the education of seminarians and lay ministers, St. Rita Home for the Deaf, Chaplaincy service for area hospitals and prisons, college campus ministry, and Catholic Charities/social services. A pledge card is being sent to each member of the parish and I sincerely encourage your participation and generous response. Please know that every gift is important no matter how large or small it may be.
Lenten Blessings! Fr. Terry _______________________________________________________
The "Spare Change" collection on March 6th & 7th will benefit a Medical Mission, called South of the Rio Bravo, in Mexico. The Medical Mission provides medical care to a destitute population that lives in squalor, without any of the basic necessities of life. There is no employment, welfare, Medicare or Medicaid to help these people. Please be generous. _________________________________________________________
Operation Rice Bowl: Jesus transfiguration was a moment of hope for the disciples, giving them the strength to endure the future sacrifices they would make as they formed the early Church. As we continue our journey with Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl, let us be mindful that our Lenten sacrifices help to give hope to our brothers and sisters in need. _________________________________________________________
The Scrutinies will be celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of Lent at the 5:00 p.m. Mass, Saturday, March 6; on the 4th Sunday of Lent at the 8:00 a.m. Mass, March 14, and on the 5th Sunday of Lent at the 9:30 a.m. Mass, March 21. “The scrutinies…are rites for self-searching and repentance…the scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong and good.” (RCIA #141) We ask for your prayers as this faithful group of people begin the last weeks of preparation to become members of our Catholic Church. _________________________________________________________

Family Corner
Marriage Moment “Love is a decision.” (Marriage Encounter motto) Of course couples in love have strong feelings of attraction to each other, but keeping the love going takes an act of the will for emotions fade. With care, however, the emotions that accompany love can usually be rekindled.
Parenting Pointer Even though it's hard economic times, I'm quitting my job - as "Reminder-In-Chief." As our children grow older they should take more responsibility for remembering their homework, the time to get up, their chores... Teach them ways to remind themselves. Don't stunt their growth by doing it for them.
